I have seen an old man, a World War II veteran, lives in a remote place, who lost a leg and walks on a wooden stump, and now living on Rs 3000/- (41$) a month. Old man still feel proud to be British soldier, tells his war story, the story behind his medal. But he often forgets to reflect, what he had earned in return. I really feel sad for this old man.

Entire world knows, Gorkhas are paid less, have much smaller pensions, less prospects of promotion and worse redundancy terms. Imagine a same British and Gorkhas soldiers not only in term of pay scale but were also shamefully discriminated in term of the facilities which they deserve equally. A British soldier could have his wife and family with him when he is posted abroad, but a Gorkha allowed only three years’ family leave out of 15 years of service. Won’t you call it Colonial racism?

Gorkha pension is still based upon the Indian Army pensions Code in accordance with the terms of the Tripartite Agreement signed in 1947 between the Governments of India, Nepal and United Kingdom, which is the sole authority for Gorkha service in the British Army.

The last major pension review was carried out in 2000 following the publication of the 5th Indian Pay Commission published in 1997. In addition pensions are reviewed annually based on the cost of living in Nepal.

Today, Its a great day for Gorkha. They had won the battle against British colonial racism (yes I still called racism). Brave Gurkhas will finally get full British Army pensions nearly 200 years after they started fighting for British.

A British’s Nepalese standard pension, which provided the bare minimums of life in old age, Several thousands of retired loyal Gorkha have been left with only the flimsiest of safety nets. The inevitable result is a increase in poverty and all that brings with it, frustration of thousands of Gorkhas, still feels that they have been used as a slavery for their very own purpose.

What a fantastic victory for Gorkhas. I called it a victory over racial discrimination. British Government must apologize their shameful policies imposed on our innocent andloyal Gorkhas brothers for about hundred of years.

Entire Nepalese Gorkha was shame of being 2nd rated army personal, who works equally as those of British but in term of equality they were brutally discriminated as like the era of colonialism. Today, The justice has been done. Gorkha deserve this much earlier. The long lasting fight that was started early 2002, conclude with a great victory not only Gorkha but for entire Nepalese.
