Champion of Poor passed away!
While India was on war against terror. It lost one of its influential leader, who led to a paradigm shift in Indian politics. Former Indian Prime Minister Mr. Vishwnath Pratap Singh passed away on Nov 27th, 2008. The news was overshadowed, and went unnoticed. Indian will remember his decision in Aug 1990 when he gave 27 per cent jobs reservation to the backward classes, popularly referred to as Mandal. It threw up to host of Oppressed backwards community leaders who have rules north Indian since the 90’s. It gave new hope and justice to OBC. It gave new wave of Dalit politics. However Mandal made VP singh an object of hate among middle classes Indian. The OBC reservation quota was uplifted a step further by congress last year. It went in for 27% quota for OBCs in institution of higher study. Which became serious controversial issue over cast against individual merits. He is also remembered for his role to dethrone late Rajiv Gandhi from the first non-congress coalition government at the center in 1989. It bring together disparate opposition parties in one entity called the Janta Dal, which became the centerpiece of the coalition, inducted regional parties to form the National Front, and elicited the support of both the left and the BJP from the outside.
The 77-year-old leader, who has been battling blood cancer for over 17 years and renal failure, breathed his last in the Apolo Hospital.
