A Hero, One In A Million!

An ordinary Pokhrali boy became an inspiration for all Nepalese. Never heard, never seen before. A dramatic incident with an extraordinary end, indeed has set an incredible example of bravery. Dare to even imagine, a-12-years-boy can make such a huge difference.
Pokhara is best known of its breathtaking scenic beauty. The Seti Gandaki and its tributaries have created spectacular gorges in and around the whole city.
On fateful day of 24th June, 2008, A toddler of John Pradhan, a local pastor, accidentally fell into the deep gorge of Pokhara.
The team of professional rescuers gave a repeated attempt to bring the child back from the deep crevices, but all turn out in vain. The rescuers faced serious obstacles in entering to the depth. After 22 hours of frustration, They thought of last resort.

Locals and relatives heard baby crying and calling out to her father for help, but it was very dark crevices. They weren’t able to see. They along with the rescue team had camped near the site all night long, praying for the safety of the child. The next day morning, Child stop crying and fell quiet.

In a dramatic turnout, a first grader boy from an impoverished family arrived at the scene. Best known among his friends as Michael, always a restless and brave boy. His elder brother had told him that only a very small and thin person could manage to get through the very narrow gorge to save the girl. Kamal readied himself to go into the gorge. Everyone surprised as he shown incredible valor to dive inside the dark crevices which possibly could have cost his life.

He climbed hundreds of feet down into a crevice in a mountain gorge on to rescue a 2-year-old toddler, Aradhana, who had fallen in 22 hours earlier. He managed to get the baby out of the deep narrowed gorge. The baby was safe with minor injury.

The news hit the headline, spread like wild fire. Kamal became a national hero. He was invited in the capital city Kathmandu. Surprisingly, He received Bir Ganeshman Singh Children’s Talent Award instantly. Many companies and individual came up with cash awards. He remained busy receiving accolades and appreciation in the capital.
